Yuppie Flu are a five-piece group from Ancona, Italy - in love with valve generated sounds, oscillators, off-beats and a surreal sense of the English language. Formed in 1997, they opened live for US acts Fuck, Moonshake and Will Oldham, in Italy, before releasing the album which brought them international recognition - "Yuppie Flu At The Zoo".
Their analogical approach to sound and feelings, a fresh European attitude from a renewed indie scene, and three months of non-stop studio time helped to create this melodious, smart and enchanting album. From the hypno-electronic instrumental cascade of "stolen boat...sinking thief", to witty, off-kilter pop songs like "Sport Yer Feelings" and "The Fairy Tales Of Young Robin", the band could be Mercury Rev partying with Mogwai and Pavement in Kraftwerk's country villa. The influences weave in and out, transformed by their waspish sensibility: cool and clever, bright, warm and lyrical.
They toured the album through Italy with guests Quickspace and Tram before returning to the studio to record five new songs - "The Boat EP": a repeat listening treat with electro bossanova beats, laced with their quirky pop-soul, and the edgily abrasive rocking of "Order The Player Off The Field", a perceptive jibe at Euro 2000 encounters. Five instantly appealing gems you can't and won't forget.
"The Boat EP" is scheduled for release in Italy during the autumn on the Homesleep label. In the meantime, a smart new German label, Doxa Records, has combined 4 of these songs with 6 tracks from "At The Zoo", forming a Yuppie Flu soundscape of tricky beats, achingly catchy melodies and wittily surreal lyrics. Forget the influences; this is a new space station in the galaxy of pop.

Il loro album di esordio, "Automatic But Static", (Vurt/valium 1997), nel quale compariva in veste di ospite A.Cambuzat della band francese Ulan Bator, è stato da molti considerato uno delle migliori uscite italiane del' 97 nell'ambito dell'indie pop indipendente.
All'inizio del '99, dopo un breve tour promozionale di supporto alla band americana Fuck e opening acts per Will Oldham e Moonshake, il gruppo è tornato in studio per tre mesi di intenso lavoro. Il risultato è stato "Yuppie Flu At The Zoo" (home/flop'99), un album melodioso, bilanciato, che ha iniziato a far conoscere gli YF anche al di là dei confini nazionali, grazie alla distribuzione in Germania della Community, al tempo etichetta dei Notwist e Console. Da "Yf At The Zoo" sono stati tratti due singoli, entrambi in vinile, entrambi in formato split con altri gruppi:
Il primo, licenziato da Home & Rhesus, è il 7" con la band americana Fuck (Matador allora, Homesleep oggi) e contiene una traccia inedita, "1967" e "sport yer feelings", il secondo, licenziato da Extreme sports U.K., è un 12" diviso con i canadesi Three Pieces e contiene il pezzo "ambassadors", anch'esso tratto da "Yf At The Zoo". Un nuovo album è stato licenziato da DOXA Germany nel maggio 2000 per il solo mercato europeo: "Hollow Beep". Contiene alcune traccie prese da "Yf At The Zoo" piu' 4 nuove canzoni, registrate durante i primi mesi del 2000. Il disco è stato promosso da un videoclip della canzone "boat or swim", girato dall'italocanadese Marco Porsia, oltre che da 2 tour promozionali di oltre 30 date in Germania. Il video è stato, inltre, premiato al MEI per miglior regia nella categoria videoclip indipendenti.
Nel novembre dello stesso anno esce su Homesleep rec un nuovo e.p. di cinque pezzi "the boat ep"... in stile Yuppie Flu: l'electro bossanova dell'apertura di "boat or swim", la ballata di sapore melanconico "a song's a song", la miscela tra gli attrezzi elettronici e le melodie pop-soul di "the blue experiment" e "kids up a house tree", il rocky mood di "order the player off the field"... cinque gioielli che hanno certamente lasciato il segno. L'e.p viene promosso con una turné europea, che toccherà nel successivo anno Inghilterra, Germania, Austria, Svizzera, Belgio, Olanda, fino ad arrivare a Mosca nel cuore della Russia.
"The boat ep" acclamato dalla critica di mezza Europa ha anche permesso alla band di firmare per una delle più prestigiose case editoriali inglesi, la "Rough Trade" (nel suo roaster anche bands quali Jim O'Rourke, Smog, Tindersticks, Isan, Godspeed You!Black Emperor, Black Heart Procession...).
Nello stesso anno la band parteciperà al prestigioso 25° anniversario di Rough trade a Londra assieme a Tindersticks, Beth Orton, Butterflies Of Love e tanti altri, e realizzerà una session live per John Kennedy negli studi della storica XFM radio di Londra.
La band si fa conoscere anche attraverso la Tv. Oltre al sopracitato video di Boat Or Swim, da citare alcune partecipazioni televisive a Mtv Roma Live, Mtv Supersonic, Viva 2-Germany.
Nel frattempo ad inizio anno esce uno stupendo 7" split con la band tedesca Tarwater (con la quale il gruppo aveva già condiviso il palco a Francoforte nella passata turnè tedesca) per l'etichetta unhip records, split che contiene Spring To downcomers uno strabiliante nuovo brano che porterà la band ad essere contattata dalla label inglese del mometo, la XL recordings!! (Badly Drawn Boy, Basement Jaxx, White stripe, Prodigy..). In breve tempo la band firma un contratto con la suddetta label per realizzare un singolo 10" in UK (uscito per la label di lancio della XL, ovvero Rex rec) nell'estate 2002.
Singolo recensito ovunque in maniera straordinaria, dall'NME a Sleaze Nation.
Nel 2003 esce finalmente l'attesissimo 3° album chiamato 'days before the day', l'album al quale seguiranno 2 anni di intenso tour (circa 100 date) ottiene critiche entusiasmanti in tutta europa e viene premiato come miglior album indipendente italiano al MEI (meeting etichette indipendenti). Due singoli estratti dall'album 'spring to downcomers' e 'food for the ants' l'ultimo dei quali viene scelto dalla Replay blue jeans, sponsor degli European MTV music awards, per uno spot in onda su tutto il circuito europeo di Mtv nel 2004.
A marzo 2005 esce invece il singolo 'Our Nature', che entra subito in playlist su gran parte delle radio indie europee (in primis le londinesi BBC1, BBC6 e XFM, la quale trasmette una session esclusiva nel programma X-posure condotto dal guru J.Kennedy e da Claire Sturgess) singolo che anticipa l'uscita del successore di DBTD, ovvero 'Toast Masters' (Homesleep ,apr 2005).
Il nuovo album verrà portato in tour in tutta europa a partire dal mese di Aprile.
